President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is working with international partners to secure the safe release of the 47 teachers and students abducted from public and private schools in Yawota and Ahoro Esienle communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The assurance was delivered on Thursday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who represented the President during the commissioning of the remodelled 154-bed Premier Hotel in Ibadan.
Speaking at the event, Akume said the Federal Government was deploying every available resource to ensure the victims return home safely.
“I wish to assure you that every realistic measure, including international collaboration, is being taken to ensure that the kidnapped victims in Oriire Local Government are safely brought home without harm or avoidable loss of life.”
The President also reassured residents of Oyo State and the South-West that the Federal Government remains committed to tackling banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violent crime across the country.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing credible intelligence that could aid security operations. He also called on traditional rulers and religious leaders to strengthen community-based security efforts.
According to the President, peace and security remain critical to national development and economic growth. He noted that the Federal Government has, over the past three years, strengthened intelligence gathering, improved coordination among security agencies, enhanced technological surveillance and increased support for security personnel.
He further disclosed that proposed legislation aimed at strengthening policing at all levels of government is currently before the National Assembly.
