Tinubu Mourns Ibadan High Chief Lekan Alabi

President Bola Tinubu has expressed grief over the death of veteran journalist, public relations practitioner and Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi, who died on Saturday in Lagos at the age of 76.

The President’s condolence message was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday, August 1.

Tinubu described the late Alabi as an accomplished journalist, respected public relations expert and cultural icon who made significant contributions to public service and the preservation of Yoruba tradition.

“Oloye Alabi was a consummate journalist and public relations expert who had a distinguished public service career. He had the rare privilege of serving four former governors of Oyo State with distinction as Press Secretary,” the President said.

Tinubu also highlighted the late Ibadan chief’s commitment to culture and traditional values, noting that his personality reflected his deep passion for preserving Nigeria’s heritage.

“Besides being a veteran journalist and renowned public relations practitioner, he was also a cultural icon. His appearance, conduct and character spoke volumes about his passion for culture and tradition.

“He was also the Cultural Ambassador of the Source in Ile-Ife, Osun State. Oloye Alabi was particularly close to the Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja,” he added.

The President extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over what he described as a great loss.

He also prayed for the peaceful repose of Alabi’s soul and for God to grant his family the strength to bear the loss.

Tinubu noted that the late journalist would be buried on Sunday in Ibadan in accordance with Islamic rites.
