The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned that President Bola Tinubu may be pushing Nigerians “dangerously close to the limits of human endurance” with the latest increase in petrol pump price to N1,470 per litre.
The party, in a statement on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the latest petrol price increase had worsened the economic hardship confronting households and businesses across the country.
The ADC observed that the rising cost of petrol was driving up transportation, food and other essential living costs, arguing that Nigerians were bearing the brunt of government’s faulty economic policies.
The party also faulted what it described as the government’s handling of the economy, claiming that recent policy measures had failed to adequately cushion the effects of rising prices on citizens.
According to the ADC, the increase in petrol prices has compounded the pressure on Nigerians already struggling with high inflation, declining purchasing power and rising living costs.
The opposition party urged Tinubu to urgently review policies it said were imposing excessive burdens on citizens, warning that continued increases in the cost of essential commodities could deepen public frustration.
The ADC said it was not opposed to economic reforms but insisted that such reforms must be accompanied by measures capable of protecting vulnerable Nigerians from their immediate impact.
It called on the President Tinubu to intervene and take urgent steps to ease the economic pressure, warning that the government should not push citizens “to their limits.”
