Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu has established a new army battalion and an artillery regiment in Kano State.
In a statement made available to news organisations on Saturday, Kwankwaso also commended the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, for their contributions to improving security in the state.
He described the deployment of the 24 Battalion to Tudun Wada and the 311 Artillery Regiment to Dambatta as a response to growing security threats in Kano and neighbouring areas.
According to him, the new military formations would improve the armed forces’ ability to tackle banditry, terrorism and other violent crimes threatening communities.
Kwankwaso said the development had increased residents’ confidence in the Federal Government’s efforts to protect lives and property.
“President Tinubu has demonstrated that he cares deeply about the security of Kano and its people. The establishment of these new military formations is a clear demonstration that the Federal Government is prepared to take decisive action to protect lives and property,” Kwankwaso said.
He noted that Kano, because of its large population and economic importance, needed a strong security system that could respond quickly to emerging threats.
The APC chieftain added that the new military formations would support existing security structures and strengthen efforts by security agencies to tackle criminal activities.
He said the Federal Government’s actions had shown its commitment to improving security, adding that residents would appreciate the President’s efforts.
“For all that President Tinubu is doing for Kano, the people of the state will continue to appreciate him. We will reciprocate these gestures through our continued support for his administration and its programmes,” he said.
Kwankwaso also called on residents of Tudun Wada, Dambatta and other communities to cooperate with the military by providing useful information to security agencies.
He stressed that the success of the new military formations would depend not only on the presence of troops but also on cooperation between security personnel and local communities.
