Several individuals were shot at the Old West End Festival in Toledo on Saturday.
Police and emergency medical personnel were deployed in significant numbers to the festival.
One potential eyewitness to the violence, who posted on social media, claimed the suspects shot approximately “4-5 people.” That assertion could not be immediately confirmed.
“I was right in the middle of it,” they said. A group of kids was fighting, one pulled a gun and wildly shot.
“At approximately 5:37 p.m., Toledo Police officers responded to a report of a person shot in the area of Delaware Avenue and Glenwood Avenue near the Old West End Festival.
“Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple shooting victims. Many victims have been transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment,” authorities said in a post on X.
“The Toledo Police Department is actively searching for the suspect or suspects involved. The investigation currently includes scenes in the area of Delaware Avenue and Robinwood Avenue. Residents and visitors are asked to avoid the area. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available,” officers added.
According to authorities, multiple casualties have been taken to local hospitals.
Police did not provide further details regarding the number of people shot or the severity of their injuries. In the Old West End neighbourhood, officers were stationed to secure the area and provide emergency medical support.
Witnesses reported seeing a significant police presence, including numerous patrol cars and emergency medical units, as organisers worked to ensure the safety of festival-goers. Gunshots were also reported by those in attendance.
The two-day Old West End Festival, held in Toledo’s historic district, features live music, food stalls, house tours, and shopping.
