The impact left the car badly damaged, but no injuries or deaths were reported.
A motorist escaped unhurt after a train struck his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has said.
A photograph from the scene shared by the agency shows a part of the car crushed by the train. But no injuries or deaths were reported.
The statement noted that LASTMA operatives and security personnel rescued the 55-year-old driver and cleared the wreckage from the tracks, allowing the train to continue its journey.
Traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis after the incident, slowing movement along the affected route.
LASTMA said the damaged vehicle was handed over to security personnel as investigations into the cause of the collision were expected to follow.
The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the operatives and security personnel for their response.
He also urged motorists to obey railway safety rules and avoid crossing the tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion.
Friday’s collision adds to a series of train accidents at the PWD railway crossing.
In October 2025, a dispatch rider died after his motorcycle collided with a moving train at the crossing.
The crossing was also the scene of a fatal accident on 9 March 2023, when a train collided with a Lagos State Government staff bus, killing six people and injuring dozens.
Following that crash, the Lagos State Ministry of Justice released a report alleging that the driver committed a prima facie case of manslaughter and grievous bodily harm.
The cause of Friday’s collision has not been established. However, the latest incident has again drawn attention to safety at a crossing where previous train accidents have claimed lives.
