A Nigerian lady has called out the South Korean Embassy in Lagos over what she described as the poor treatment of people applying for visas.
In a video shared on social media, she alleged that applicants were left waiting for hours under the sun with no designated waiting area, despite the large number of people visiting the embassy for visa applications.
Lady recounts visa application experience
The lady said she arrived at the embassy at about 9:30 a.m. and was issued queue number 19. Although she did not mind waiting, she questioned why applicants were allegedly made to sit on a gutter pavement outside the embassy.
She also claimed that some people had arrived as early as 6 a.m., yet there was nowhere for them to sit while waiting to be attended to.
Sharing her experience, she said:
“This video is to call the attention of the South Korean embassy here in Lagos. Treat us like humans. This is the second time I’m coming here.
“Today is Monday morning. I arrived around 9:30 a.m. They gave me a number, number 19. That is not even the problem.
“I don’t mind waiting but why am I sitting down on the gutter pavement? Like why am I sitting down here?
“We understand that you can’t take everybody at once but you should make provision for, you know, a conducive environment where they can sit and wait. Why are we in the sun because we want to apply for a visa?
“There’s nowhere to sit around here. Let me show you guys. See, you can see some people are standing behind me. There’s nowhere to sit.”
“Embassy is so big. As big as it is, they can’t create a space for people to sit down or even stay under the shade.
“Really, if you know that the crowd is too much for you to handle, why not just bring back appointment-based submission? Let people book appointments so you know the number of people you can take per time.”
“Some came around 6 a.m. No place to sit down. And now I’ve been waiting for more than two hours and I’m told to come back tomorrow. Do you know where I’m coming from? This is not nice.”
“When I got here, they said they don’t collect application after 11. But that information is not on the website. It’s not online.
“The rest of us have been told to leave and come back tomorrow because they’ve stopped letting people in. Well, I’m on my way back home.”
