Josi has criticised tribalism in Nigeria, urging citizens to stop allowing ethnic loyalty to prevent them from speaking out against bad governance and divisive political rhetoric.
In a statement, Josi questioned why some Nigerians allow tribal affiliations to influence their judgment, even when they believe people from their own ethnic group are contributing to the country’s problems.
“Give honour to whom honour is due, and shame to whom shame is due. How can we be so consumed by tribalism that we cannot see when our own brother is killing us? Tribalism doesn’t protect you; it destroys us all,” Josi said.
Josi also spoke about the negative experiences Nigerians face when travelling abroad, arguing that citizens are often identified by their nationality rather than their ethnic backgrounds.
According to Josi, the challenges Nigerians encounter internationally affect everyone, regardless of their tribe or ethnic group.
“The embarrassment we face when we cross our borders and travel abroad belongs to everyone. Nobody asks about your tribe; they see a Nigerian,” Josi added.
Josi further called on Nigerians to stop defending poor governance and divisive statements simply because they come from political leaders who share their ethnic background.
The statement emphasised the need for collective responsibility, with Josi arguing that Nigerians share the consequences of the country’s challenges and must work together to address them.
