Troops arrest suspected terrorist kingpin at Zamfara market

Nigerian Army troops have arrested Kachalla Halilu, a suspected terrorist kingpin during an intelligence-led operation at the Shinkafi weekly market in Zamfara state.

The suspect was apprehended by troops of the 8 Division Garrison following credible intelligence indicating his presence at the busy market, according to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama.

Security sources said the troops swiftly mobilised to the location and arrested Halilu without resistance.

Items recovered from the suspect included a motorcycle, a mobile phone, a cap and livestock medication.

“The troops responded promptly to the intelligence report and successfully arrested the suspect during the operation,” the sources were quoted as saying.

The suspect and the recovered items have since been handed over to military intelligence personnel for further investigation.

Authorities said the arrest forms part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist and criminal networks operating across Zamfara state and other parts of the North-West region.

Security officials added that investigations are ongoing to determine the suspect’s level of involvement in criminal activities and identify possible collaborators.

Zamfara remains one of Nigeria’s most troubled states, with banditry, kidnappings and other violent crimes continuing to pose significant security challenges despite intensified military operations.
