Troops arrests suspect, neutralise terrorist spy in Borno

Nigerian Army troops carried out a late-night search operation in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, during which they arrested one suspect and killed a suspected terrorist spy.

Security sources said the operation took place at about 12:01 am on April 16, 2026.

Zagazola Makama shared on X that the operation was carried out by troops from the 202 Battalion and the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, covering areas such as Customs, an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, and the Gwange community.

During the operation, one civilian was arrested after he was found with a soldier’s personal items, military uniforms, a Dane gun, and other materials.

In a related incident, troops reportedly spotted a suspected terrorist spy attempting to escape from the rear of a prison facility.

According to the sources, “efforts to apprehend the suspect were unsuccessful”, and he was later “neutralised”.

The arrested suspect is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine his level of involvement in criminal activities.

Security operations remain ongoing in the area as troops continue efforts to prevent terrorist infiltration and maintain pressure on armed groups.
