Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, are engaged in a fierce gun battle with bandits loyal to notorious kingpin Ado Allero during an ongoing military operation in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to security sources, the clash erupted after troops encountered the armed group while conducting an offensive aimed at disrupting the activities of criminal elements operating in the area.
The sources said troops brought superior firepower to bear against the heavily armed bandits, who were reportedly operating in large numbers.
Military officials described the encounter as intense, adding that additional ground troops and air surveillance assets were being coordinated to support the operation if required.
Ado Allero is among Nigeria’s most wanted bandit leaders, with his network accused of carrying out attacks on rural communities, kidnappings and cattle rustling across Zamfara, Katsina and neighbouring states.
The latest operation forms part of the ongoing Operation FANSAN YAMMA, through which security forces are targeting bandit enclaves and armed groups across the North-West.
There has been no official statement on casualties or the outcome of the operation, which was still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
