Troops of Sector 6 under Operation Enduring Peace have launched efforts to apprehend suspected herders following the destruction of farmlands in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops responded at about 8:00 a.m. on July 17 to reports that farms belonging to Mrs. Helen Davou and 11 other farmers had been destroyed in the Gero area.
The sources said that on arrival at the scene, the troops discovered extensive maize farmlands that had been grazed by cattle. The suspected herders had fled the area before the security personnel arrived.
Military authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for the destruction in order to ensure they are brought to justice.
The incident is being investigated as part of ongoing measures by Operation Enduring Peace to prevent farmer-herder conflicts and maintain peace across Plateau State.
