Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised two suspected bandits during a tactical operation in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation was carried out on Saturday following intelligence reports of gunshots around a forest near the “Welcome to Donga” signpost in Akate District.

According to a statement by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Umar Muhammad, troops swiftly moved to the area after receiving the intelligence and launched a coordinated raid on the suspected hideout.

He said the troops encountered the suspected armed criminals on arrival, leading to a gun battle during which two of the suspects were killed.

Items recovered from the operation included one AK-47 rifle, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones and other personal belongings.

The Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for what he described as their “swiftness and professionalism” during the operation.

Akaliro urged the troops to sustain ongoing offensives against criminal elements in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to rid the state of insecurity.

He also assured residents of Taraba State that the military would continue to maintain pressure on criminal groups until threats to peace and security are eliminated across the state.
