Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 49 travellers from Kano State after they were reportedly targeted by suspected kidnappers in Zamfara State.
The travellers were returning from Senegal, where they had attended a Maulud programme, when their vehicle reportedly developed a fault while passing through Zamfara.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama reported that the suspected kidnappers moved against the travellers after the vehicle broke down, prompting the intervention of the troops.
The troops successfully rescued all 49 travellers and secured them from the attackers.
The rescued travellers were later handed over to the Chairman of Tsafe Local Government Area, Garba Shehu Fanchers, during the night for immediate welfare support and medical assessment.
The local government authorities are expected to facilitate their safe return to their families after the necessary checks.
Makama noted that the rescue comes amid continued military operations against kidnapping and other criminal activities across Zamfara and other parts of the North-West.
