Donald Trump has slammed Iran’s response to the latest ceasefire proposal as “totally unacceptable” in a fiery social media post. The US President took to his platform Truth Social to call out the reaction from “Iran’s so-called representatives” following the latest efforts in the protracted peace process.
He wrote: “I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called “Representatives.” I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP.” Iranian state media responded, with a source telling Tasnim news agency that Tehran wants “an immediate end to the war”.
They said Iran’s plan for peace focuses on the US lifting sanctions on the country and promising no more aggression in the future.
The source added: “We just saw the reaction of the ‘so-called U.S. President’ to Iran’s response. It doesn’t matter at all; no one in Iran writes plans to please Trump.
“The negotiating team should write plans only for the rights of the Iranian nation, and if Trump isn’t happy with them, all the better. Trump doesn’t like reality at all; that’s why he keeps losing to Iran.”
Tehran also wants to regain full control of the Strait of Hormuz, “provided certain commitments are carried out through the United States”, the news agency reported.
While details of the peace deal have not been made public, reports from the Times and the BBC claim it’s a 14-point proposal to end the war and form the basis of further negotiations.
The proposal was said to include lifting sanctions against Iran and releasing billions of dollars in frozen assets, as well as a mutual agreement to end within 30 days competing blockades of the Strait of Hormuz, the Times reported.
It also included a suspension on Iranian nuclear enrichment, Axios reported, citing two unnamed US officials.
