Trump calls Nobel Peace Prize decision ‘disgraceful’

He, once again, made the oft-repeated claim that he had settled eight wars since resuming office.

US President Donald Trump has criticised the Nobel Prize after failing once again to win the peace prize, describing this year’s decision as “disgraceful and embarrassing.”

He said the US, represented by him, deserved the peace prize and should have won it.

He, once again, made the oft-repeated but false claim that he had settled eight wars since resuming office.

Mr Trump said he was just “about to settle or win two more. Russia-Ukraine and Iran.”

“I will tell you what,” he added, darkly. “Iran will be very quick one way or the other: that they give us everything or they don’t exist any longer,” he declared.

He said the Nobel committee’s failure to award him the peace prize was an “indelible stain on the country of Norway.”

He also said the committee made “such a disgraceful and embarrassing decision.”

“The Nobel Peace Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and really enemies of civilisation,” he said.

Mr Trump has been outspoken about his desire to win the prize and campaigned intensely for it for months last year. He criticised the organisation when the peace prize was eventually awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

Ms Machado would later gift her medal to Mr Trump for what she described as his commitment to Venezuela’s freedom following the US abduction of President Nicholas Maduro. Mr Trump called the move “a wonderful gesture of mutual respect” but the Nobel committee clarified that the prize was not transferable.

The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Navi Pillay, is a South African jurist and former UN high commissioner for human rights.

The South African judge was recognised for her efforts to promote peace and international law.

The Nobel committee said her work paved the way for a “more comprehensive global legal order.”

While reacting to the news, the 85-year-old made a light-hearted joke about Mr Trump.

“If you clap a little bit more, I may share this prize with Trump,” she said.
