US President Donald Trump has again extended his deadline for the “total destruction” of Iranian energy infrastructure, claiming that diplomatic efforts with Tehran are bearing fruit, despite mixed responses from the Islamic Republic.
Trump posed on his Truth Social page late Thursday evening that Tehran had asked for more time to deliberate on the US demands to end the war in the Middle East, praising Iran’s decision to allow ten ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, an international waterway currently under Iranian control.
“As per Iranian Government request… I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time,” he posted on Thursday.
“Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well.”
Pakistan, which shares cordial relations with both countries, will take a lead role in peace efforts between Iran and the US, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul confirmed on Friday.
“Based on my information there have been indirect contacts, and preparations have been made to meet directly. That would be very soon in Pakistan, apparently,” he told German media. Russia said there will be an emergency Security Council meeting held on Friday.
Meanwhile, Israel has continued to pound Iran, saying it would “intensify strikes” and hitting “the heart of Tehran”.
