US President Donald Trump has said he expects the conflict with Iran to end shortly after the November 3 midterm elections in the United States, alleging that Tehran is attempting to hold out until the vote to influence the outcome.
Speaking to reporters during his travels in Ireland, Trump said he believed the fighting would draw to a close later this year once election results are settled.
“I think very soon. I think it’ll be, probably, right after the midterms,” Trump said. “They’re trying to hold out as long as they can to complicate the election. But I think people are wise to it.”
The US president suggested Iran is hoping for a shift in Congressional power that would force Washington into a softer posture.
However, he reiterated that Washington is in no rush for immediate negotiations, maintaining that US military actions and economic pressure have severely constrained Tehran.
Trump also claimed that global energy markets would stabilize quickly once the conflict concludes. “When that happens, oil prices will come tumbling down,” he added.
His remarks come amid ongoing military actions in key maritime corridors, including the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian officials have consistently rejected claims that they are seeking concessions, insisting Tehran will continue to counter strikes as global energy supplies face ongoing pressure.
