The Defence headquarters say intelligence sharing and training support from the United States and other international partners continue to strengthen ongoing counterterrorism and internal security operations across the country.
Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, the director, defence media operations disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja while briefing journalists on ongoing military operations nationwide.
Onoja said the U.S. remained a key partner in Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts, providing intelligence support, training and technical assistance that improved operational efficiency across various theatres.
He clarified that the U.S. had no combat troops deployed to Nigeria, stressing that the cooperation was strictly advisory and capacity-building in nature.
According to him, the partnership has significantly enhanced intelligence-driven operations, enabling troops to better track, target and dismantle terrorist and criminal networks.
Onoja said the Armed Forces had also strengthened information operations and civil-military engagement to counter misinformation and improve public trust in ongoing security efforts.
He added that the military was working closely with communities, traditional rulers and the media to ensure timely flow of credible information in support of national security operations.
On security in the FCT, Onoja assured residents that all security agencies had been placed on heightened alert, following isolated reports of criminal activities in some areas.
He said there was no verified intelligence confirming the presence of terrorists in the capital territory, but that surveillance and patrols had been intensified to prevent any breach of security.
He explained that security agencies were also conducting internal reviews of incidents where conflicting accounts emerged, stressing that accountability remained key principle of military operations.
He urged residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information through established communication channels.
“The Armed Forces remain committed to safeguarding lives and property, and we will continue to work with both international partners and local communities to sustain security across the country,” he said.
