The United Arab Emirates has suspended flights operated by Iranian airlines to and from the country, effective Thursday, September 24, until further notice.
The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced the suspension, saying the decision was made in light of a US ban imposed on Iranian airlines using airports in various countries.
The authority said it would continue to provide updates on developments concerning air traffic between the two countries.
The suspension affects Iranian airline services operating to and from the UAE, including flights serving the country’s major aviation hubs.
Iranian media also reported the suspension, with ISNA quoting a source as saying flights operated by Iranian airlines to the UAE had been cancelled from midnight.
The development comes as Iranian airlines face increasing restrictions on international operations following new US sanctions targeting the country’s aviation sector.
The US measures have placed pressure on companies providing services such as refuelling, airport handling and other support to Iranian carriers.
The UAE GCAA urged passengers and members of the public to rely on official and authorised sources for information on the suspension.
