The UBA graduate who recently became a subject of widespread online discussion after addressing businessman Tony Elumelu by his first name has received a major show of support following the controversy.
Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media to the Delta State Governor, announced an offer of ₦500,000, a VIP trip and an ambassadorial opportunity for the young woman.
In a Facebook post, Ossai said the package was intended to support the graduate and give her an opportunity to attend the fourth edition of the Delta Social Media Summit, scheduled to hold on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Mariam Babangida Leisure Park, opposite Dennis Osadebay University in Asaba, Delta State.
According to him, the young woman would receive ₦500,000 in cash support alongside a complimentary VIP trip to the event.
The proposed package includes flight tickets to Asaba, five-star hotel accommodation, VIP access to the summit and a guided tour of developmental projects across Delta State.
She is also expected to receive an opportunity to serve as a brand ambassador for the Delta Social Media Summit.
Ossai also addressed the criticism the graduate has faced since the incident went viral. He acknowledged that social media backlash can take a toll on people, particularly when criticism continues for an extended period.
“I know the internet can be harsh. Depression is real and words cut deep,” he said.
While admitting that the graduate made a mistake during the encounter, the Delta State government aide urged Nigerians to stop subjecting her to further attacks.
“She made a mistake but we don’t need to torment her daily, she needs our support,” he stated.
Ossai further appreciated Tony Elumelu for correcting the young woman during their encounter, saying the correction could help reinforce the importance of respect in society.
“Thank you Mr Tony Elumelu for pointing out the needed correction that will further strengthen respect in our society,” he wrote.
Beyond the financial assistance and summit invitation, Ossai said he wants to give the graduate an opportunity to publicly share her side of the story and use the experience as a stepping stone rather than allowing it to define her.
He therefore appealed to anyone who knows the young woman to encourage her to contact him.
“If you’re reading this or anyone knows her, please ask her to DM me,” he said.
Ossai added that he intends to provide her with a platform to tell her story and assured her that she would be welcomed.
“I will give her a good time and a platform to tell her story.”
“Let’s turn this pain into purpose.”
“She won’t be disappointed,” he added.
The development comes amid continued online conversations surrounding the viral encounter, with reactions ranging from criticism of the graduate to calls for Nigerians to show her understanding and allow her to learn from the experience.
