Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved N3.659 billion for the payment of pensions, gratuities and death benefits to 1,339 retirees and families of deceased public servants across the state.
The latest approval covers beneficiaries under both the Defined Benefit Scheme and the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, disclosed this in a statement, saying the latest payment brings the total amount approved for pension-related payments by the Sani administration to N21.455 billion since it assumed office in May 2023.
According to him, the cumulative payment has benefited 9,683 retirees and eligible families.
Giving a breakdown of the latest approval, Maiyaki said 210 local government retirees would receive N515 million under the Defined Benefit Scheme.
He said another N3.144 billion had been approved for 1,129 beneficiaries under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The beneficiaries under the CPS comprise 402 retirees from the state civil service and 727 retirees from the 23 local government councils.
Maiyaki said the latest intervention was part of the administration’s efforts to clear outstanding pension obligations and strengthen the state’s pension system.
He added that the payment was also linked to broader reforms in public financial management aimed at improving fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability in the management of pension liabilities.
“Governor Uba Sani remains committed to ensuring that those who devoted their productive years to the service of Kaduna State receive their legitimate entitlements with dignity.
“Pension payment is not a favour; it is an obligation to our retirees and the families of deceased public servants,” the commissioner said.
Maiyaki said the administration would continue to implement pension reforms, settle outstanding liabilities and work towards a more predictable system for meeting the state’s pension obligations.
