Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has approved ₦3.659 billion for the payment of pensions, gratuities and death benefits to 1,339 retirees and families of deceased public servants across the state and its Local Government Councils.
The approval covers beneficiaries under both the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) and the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, who said the latest payment brings the total pension-related disbursements by the Uba Sani administration since May 2023 to ₦21.455 billion, benefiting 9,683 retirees and other beneficiaries.
According to Maiyaki, 210 Local Government retirees will receive ₦515 million under the Defined Benefit Scheme.
Under the Contributory Pension Scheme, the government approved ₦3.144 billion for 1,129 beneficiaries, comprising 402 retirees from the State Service and 727 retirees from the Local Government Councils.
The Commissioner said the latest intervention formed part of the administration’s broader efforts to systematically address outstanding pension liabilities and strengthen the sustainability of the state’s pension system.
He added that the pension payments were also linked to ongoing public financial management reforms designed to promote fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability while creating a more predictable framework for meeting the state’s pension obligations.
“Governor Uba Sani remains committed to ensuring that those who devoted their productive years to the service of Kaduna State receive their legitimate entitlements with dignity.
“Pension payment is not a favour; it is an obligation to our retirees and the families of deceased public servants,” Maiyaki said.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to sustaining pension reforms, progressively clearing outstanding liabilities and improving retirement security for public servants across Kaduna State.
He said the government would continue working towards a pension system that gives retirees greater financial security, dignity and peace of mind after years of public service.
