Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has claimed that Uber left Nigeria because residents of Lagos and Abuja now have access to improved public transportation infrastructure.
Omokri reportedly linked Uber’s exit from the Nigerian market to the development of rail transportation, particularly Lagos’ Blue Line and Red Line services.
His comment has, however, sparked reactions from Nigerians on social media, with many users questioning the claim and pointing out that Uber operates in cities around the world with functional public transportation systems.
One user, @Deyksplus, asked: “So, other countries where Uber is thriving do not have a functional infrastructure? This is myopic.”
Another user, @Imole_ee, wrote: “So na for only Lagos and Abuja Uber de work ?”
@JoshuaDanielUm1 also questioned the reference to Abuja, asking: “Can you show where and where blue line is in Abuja”
@DSegaj wrote: “So, going by Reno Omokri’s mediocre logic, Uber is thriving in London and New York because of the failure of infrastructure?”
Other Nigerians also criticised Omokri’s statement, with some questioning his credibility and others mocking the claim.
