Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool has once again added more headaches for Arne Slot after his side fell to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final in Paris, news.ng reports.
It was Desire Doue who opened the scoring for PSG eleven minutes after kick-off to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Liverpool, travelling all the way from England, came into the match unprepared, as possession statistics showed 26% to 74% at the end of 90 minutes.
The defending champions, PSG, maintained composure and possession throughout the first half before doubling their lead in the 65th minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to make it 2-0.
Liverpool now has another opportunity to redeem itself as they host PSG next Tuesday at Anfield despite a two-goal deficit.
Elsewhere, at Camp Nou, FC Barcelona’s home ground, they suffered a 2-0 defeat to rivals Atletico Madrid as Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth were on target in the 45th and 70th minutes respectively.
Although Barça played for a full 45 minutes after Pau Cubarsí was handed a red card, they still managed to maintain possession until the final whistle.
With two goals down in the first leg, the return match will be a different ball game next week as they try to overturn the scoreline.
