The Delta State Government has announced a restriction of movement in Udu Local Government Area from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, ahead of the Udu State Constituency House of Assembly bye-election.
The restriction is aimed at ensuring a safe, peaceful and orderly electoral environment, as well as protecting voters and sensitive election materials.
According to a special announcement signed by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, the announcement advised residents and members of the public in Udu to comply with the restriction throughout the period of the election.
It, however, clarified that the restriction would not affect essential workers and authorised personnel carrying out election-related duties.
Also exempted are accredited election observers, media personnel, security operatives, emergency responders and essential service providers.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Udu State Constituency bye-election for Saturday, September 19, as part of legislative bye-elections being held across Delta, Gombe, Bauchi and Kano states.
INEC said voting in the affected constituencies would take place at designated polling units, with the exercise scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Delta Government urged residents of Udu to cooperate with the restriction and other lawful measures put in place to facilitate a peaceful electoral process.
Meanwhile, the Integrity Group, More Agenda, Renewed Hope for More Agenda and You Matter Charity Foundation Ambassadors have urged eligible voters in Udu LGA to vote massively for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hon. Ator Okolosi.
The call was contained in a statement issued by the Director-General of the Integrity Group, Dr Oke Idawene, and the Delta State Chairman of the group, Comrade Bolum Martin, and made available to journalists in Asaba.
The group expressed confidence in the preparedness of INEC to conduct a free, fair and credible election.
It urged voters to come out en masse and support Okolosi, an ambassador of the group, saying such a vote would demonstrate their support for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his administration’s development efforts across the state.
The group described Okolosi as a man of proven integrity and capacity, urging the electorate to support his candidacy.
