The Vice-Chancellor of University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, has commended Rite Foods Limited for its strong commitment to advancing academic excellence through the Rite Foods National Academic Excellence Awards.
Speaking on Monday, July 20, during the presentation of award recipients to the university management, Professor Ogunsola described the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future and a meaningful recognition of outstanding academic achievement.
The ceremony saw two distinguished UNILAG students—Chinedu Okeke Christian, Overall Best Matriculating Student in the South-West Zone, and Tijesuni Michelle Ogunsua-Dixon, winner of the Equal Opportunity category—formally present their scholarship cheques to the university leadership. Notably, UNILAG emerged as the only tertiary institution with two awardees at the inaugural edition of the awards.
Professor Ogunsola lauded the role of the private sector in supporting education, noting that such initiatives complement institutional efforts in nurturing excellence.
> “This initiative is a commendable example of how the private sector can contribute meaningfully to education. By recognising students who have distinguished themselves academically and ensuring that equal opportunity is also celebrated, Rite Foods is sending a strong message that excellence, hard work and resilience deserve to be rewarded,” she stated.
She added that the recognition would inspire more young Nigerians to pursue excellence and remain committed to their academic goals.
Representing Rite Foods at the event, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager, Dennise Aideloje, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to empowering young Nigerians through impactful educational initiatives.
> “At Rite Foods, we believe education is one of the greatest investments any society can make. The Rite Foods National Academic Excellence Award was created to celebrate exceptional young Nigerians whose dedication and outstanding performance deserve recognition,” Aideloje said.
The Rite Foods National Academic Excellence Award recognises top-performing matriculating students across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones through a transparent selection process that evaluates candidates’ performance in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), O’Level results, and Post-UTME scores. It also honours outstanding students in the Equal Opportunity category, reinforcing the company’s commitment to inclusivity and equal access to education.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Rite Foods for the recognition, describing it as a strong motivation to sustain academic excellence and contribute positively to society.
Through the initiative, Rite Foods continues to demonstrate its commitment to education, talent development, and youth empowerment under its EYEC Corporate Social Responsibility framework, positioning itself as a key partner in shaping Nigeria’s next generation of leaders.
