One month after the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) suspended its 2026/2027 Post-UTME mock examination, over 2,000 candidates who paid for the exercise are yet to receive a refund.
The university had on Friday, August 21 announced the suspension of the proposed mock examination, citing technical issues.
In a notice issued to candidates, the institution said arrangements were being made to refund those who had already registered and apologised for the inconvenience.
The announcement came after the university had earlier declared that it had reached its approved limit of 2,000 candidates for the exercise and that new applicants could no longer apply.
Each candidate paid N1,161.25 to register, comprising a N1,000 fee, N150 charge and N11.25 VAT on charges. With 2,000 candidates registered, the total sum collected amounts to N2,322,500, of which N2,000,000 represents the actual examination fee.
However, findings by THE WHISTLER show that the promised refund has not been made one month after the cancellation.
One of the parents who spoke to THE WHISTLER confirmed that his child is yet to receive the refund.
The parents who pleaded anonymity, said while the amount may appear small on an individual basis, the total sum collected from all candidates is significant and calls for transparency.
“We are yet to get the refund. I know they will say it is small but calculate the money for every candidate and know it is not small money. Transparency is very important in everything we do,” he said.
When contacted, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Inya Agha Egwu, said he would investigate the matter and get back to our reporter.
When the reporter called back the next day, he said he was in a meeting and promised to return the call, but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
