Unubiko Foundation Donates N1m To Abia Students

The Unubiko Foundation has donated N1 million to the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Abia State, following the inauguration of Comrade Richard Chijoke Njoku as chairman of the association.

The donation was announced by the Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, Engr. Dr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, who was also conferred with the title of Patron of NANS JCC, Abia State.

Njoku, an ND II student of the Department of Legal Studies, School of Mass Communication, Media and Legal Studies, Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, emerged unopposed in the chairmanship election held on October 9, 2026, at Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba. The position was zoned to the polytechnic.

Addressing the gathering, Njoku called for unity among students, urging those who supported other candidates to cooperate with his administration.

“To those who supported my opponents, I will extend my hands in unity. Elections may distinguish candidates, but our collective responsibility to the students must unite us,” he said.

He pledged to run an inclusive administration focused on accountability, constructive criticism and initiatives that address students’ concerns.

“Leadership is not the ability to do everything alone; it is the willingness to bring people together to achieve more than an individual can achieve alone,” Njoku added.

In his remarks, Okoro commended the association for its commitment to student representation and praised the Abia State Government, through the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Eme Uche Eme, for prioritising education.

“There is nothing that can replace quality education. Our tertiary education is now competing with other nations because of the vision of His Excellency. We must align with that vision to ensure that the right things are done,” the Rector said.

He emphasised the need to place students’ welfare and future at the centre of educational policies and decisions.

Okoro also acknowledged the contributions of the Unubiko Foundation, founded by Chief James Ume, to educational development, noting that it had supported more than 1,000 students in pursuing their academic aspirations.

The conferment of the patronship title on the Rector followed a transition in the association’s staff advisory leadership. He was recognised for his support for students and contributions to the association’s development.

The inauguration marks the beginning of Njoku’s one-year tenure as chairman of NANS JCC, Abia State.
