The United States has announced a new visa restriction policy targeting foreign nationals involved in cybercrime and cyber-enabled criminal activities.
Announcing the policy, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said:
“President Trump has made clear that his administration will take action to counter cybercrime, fraud, and predatory schemes against Americans.”
He added: “Today I am announcing a new policy that will restrict visas to foreign nationals responsible for or complicit in cybercrime and cyber-enabled crimes that have devastated American families and children.”
Rubio said the measure underscores the US government’s determination to pursue cybercriminals, declaring:
“By going after these individuals, our message is clear: The United States will go after those who prey on our citizens.”
The new policy is intended to strengthen efforts to deter cybercrime and hold perpetrators accountable by restricting their ability to travel to the United States.
