Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has denied any link to the recent Federal High Court judgment that nullified the recognition of the incumbent governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Imo West senatorial district in the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the position known on Thursday while fielding questions during his media parley in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
He dismissed his involvement in the court judgment, describing as mischievous those linking his name to the court ruling.
The minister, however, stated publicly that he disagrees with Uzodimma over his rainbow coalition initiative, denying any involvement in the ongoing internal political issues in the APC.
“What is Uzodimma afraid of? Our priorities should be working to see the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027. If there is an initiative to achieve that, then what is the issue?” he asked.
Recall that the judgment delivered on Thursday, October 29, by Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, nullified Uzodimma’s emergence as the APC senatorial candidate for the January 16, 2027 election.
The court held that former Governor Rochas Okorocha won the APC primary held on May 18, 2026, and ordered the APC to forward Okorocha’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as its candidate.
The court also restrained Uzodimma from presenting himself as the party’s candidate for the district.
