Authorities of Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, have announced the introduction of five new academic programmes following approval by the National Universities Commission, NUC.
The newly approved programmes are B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Information Systems, B.Sc. Data Science, and B.A. Theatre Arts.
In a statement issued by its Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications, Mr Ben Agande, the university said the addition of the new programmes brings the total number of departments in the institution to 43, spread across 12 faculties and a College of Medicine.
Some of the existing programmes offered by the university include Law, Medicine and Surgery, Software Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering, among others.
The university explained that the introduction of the new programmes was a deliberate move to address identified gaps in emerging fields and equip students with the knowledge and skills required to meet future challenges.
Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Veritas University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku, said the programmes would combine advanced computational thinking, human-centred design and robust data analytics to prepare students for careers in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
“The new programmes will integrate advanced computational thinking, human-centred design and robust data analysis to prepare our students for dynamic careers in an evolving digital landscape and further strengthen the university’s nationally and internationally acclaimed computing programmes,” he said.
According to him, students must be exposed early to relevant skills that will distinguish them in an increasingly competitive world.
“As Artificial Intelligence and Data Science continue to shape many aspects of human life, we cannot afford to lag behind. We want a personalised learning experience that bridges existing educational gaps and produces graduates capable of safeguarding institutional and national data.
“This expansion aligns with our broader goal of leveraging technology to advance our core functions of teaching, research and community service.
“We want our students to be pacesetters in the world of interactive technologies and leaders in securing critical digital infrastructure. We want them to excel in these high-demand fields,” he added.
