Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has responded to the ongoing protest led by social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area.
The protest, which took place today in Ibadan, drew large crowds of youths, civil society groups, and students demanding urgent action from both the state and federal governments over rising insecurity and the safe rescue of kidnapped victims.
Makinde personally addressed representatives of protesters and labour groups, acknowledging their grievances and describing the situation as painful and concerning.
He assured residents that the state government is working with security agencies to secure the release of the abducted victims, stressing that security operations are ongoing and require careful coordination.
Makinde also appealed for calm, urging protesters not to escalate tensions while government efforts continue, while reaffirming that “no effort will be spared” in resolving the crisis.
