Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has called on Nigerians to steer clear of fraudulent activities, emphasising that individuals who engage in such practices before entering politics or civil service are unlikely to change their ways.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for his exemplary governance and urged Nigerians to participate more actively in politics.
Speaking in a viral video yesterday, Kalu expressed concern over the prevalence of fraudulent activities in Nigeria, particularly among politicians and civil servants. He stressed that those who engaged in fraudulent practices before assuming public office are unlikely to reform, making it imperative for Nigerian authorities to continue their efforts in combating crime.
“Politicians and civil servants who were involved in fraudulent activities before assuming their current positions are unlikely to change their ways.
“It is crucial for the Nigerian authorities to intensify their fight against crime and hold such individuals accountable,” he stated.
Kalu further urged Nigerians to be vigilant and discerning in their support for political leaders, emphasising the need to elect individuals with integrity and a commitment to serving the public good.
“We need to be mindful of the type of characters we entrust with leadership positions.
“It is essential to elect individuals who are dedicated to the welfare of the people and who have a track record of honesty and integrity,” he remarked.
He applauded President Bola Tinubu for his outstanding performance in governance, commending his efforts in advancing the development and prosperity of the nation and highlighting his contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic progress.
“President Bola Tinubu is doing wonderfully well in governance, and his leadership has had a positive impact on our nation.
“I commend his dedication to the welfare of the people and his commitment to advancing the development of Nigeria,” Kalu praised.
He emphasised the importance of increased participation in politics, urging Nigerians to actively engage in the democratic process. He encouraged citizens to exercise their right to vote and to seek opportunities for meaningful contributions to national governance.
“In response to the type of characters Nigerians don’t need in leadership and the need for greater political participation, I urge my fellow citizens to actively engage in the political process.
“It is essential for the voices of the people to be heard, and for individuals of integrity to step forward and lead our nation to greater heights,” Kalu urged.
He condemned individuals involved in fraudulent activities, particularly those targeting foreign nationals. He emphasised the need for ethical conduct and accountability in all spheres of public service, reinforcing the importance of integrity and honesty in leadership.
“Anyone in politics or in positions of authority who engages in fraudulent activities, whether in South Africa or elsewhere, duping foreign nationals or any other individuals, must be held accountable.
“We must uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and ensure that those in positions of authority serve with integrity and honesty,” he submitted.
