According to a report by The Cable on Saturday, June 27, 2026, the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has condemned the recent Federal High Court ruling that set aside an earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the party, describing the decision as legally flawed and politically motivated.
Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja ruled that the court’s earlier decision should be vacated because the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which claims an interest in the disputed party logo, was not joined in the original proceedings.
The judge directed that the substantive suit be heard afresh with all relevant parties participating.
Reacting to the ruling, Dickson insisted that the order would not stand and vowed to challenge it through the appropriate legal channels.
The former Bayelsa State governor argued that the judgment undermines Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system and accused unnamed opponents of attempting to slow the party’s rapid growth.
“We are not naive to expect that the tremendous progress we have achieved in the last five months would go without attack,” Dickson said. “We know where this is coming from. It is coming from those who are shocked by the progress the NDC has made.”
He disclosed that the party’s legal team had already begun preparations to challenge the ruling on appeal, while expressing confidence that the decision would eventually be overturned.
Dickson also reassured members and supporters that the NDC remained committed to its political objectives.
“We are under attack, but thereafter, we shall win,” he said, adding that the court decision had inspired thousands of Nigerians to register as members in solidarity with the party.
