Nigerian celebrity barman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chiefpriest, has sparked a debate online after declaring that people from Imo State are the biggest spenders in Igbo land.
The nightlife personality made the claim while attending the birthday celebration of interior designer Vintage, where he pointed to a luxury wristwatch reportedly purchased for $500,000, estimated at about ₦705 million, as proof of his assertion.
Speaking during the celebration, Cubana Chiefpriest compared the spending habits of people from different southeastern states, including Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Abia.
He said:
“We have Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, but it’s we Imo that have more doings and the baddest in Igbo land. See what we have done, premium! Look at how we spent $500K (₦705 million) on a watch. An Anambra man will rather use that money to buy land. But we Imo people do it again and again, that’s who we are.”
According to the socialite, the difference is not necessarily about who has more money but how wealthy individuals choose to spend it.
He portrayed Imo indigenes as people who are comfortable splashing huge sums on luxury items and extravagant experiences, while suggesting that Anambra people are more likely to channel similar amounts into real estate and other investments.
Known for his lavish lifestyle and strong presence in Nigeria’s nightlife scene, Cubana Chiefpriest appeared confident in his description of Imo people as big spenders.
His comments have since generated reactions, with the comparison between the spending habits of different southeastern states likely to fuel further conversations online.
