Professor Pat Utomi has shared an anecdote about President Bola Tinubu and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, recalling a trip where all three travelled on the same British Airways flight from Lagos to London.
Speaking during an interview with Atlanta Discuss Channel, Utomi said he and Tinubu were both seated in the first-class cabin, while Obi, who was serving as Anambra State governor at the time, flew in the economy section.
According to Utomi, after the flight landed in London, he and Tinubu walked towards the immigration counter before noticing Obi behind them. He said they paused to wait for the former governor.
Utomi said Obi informed them that he had been seated in the economy class section of the aircraft despite being a serving governor.
The professor said the experience reflected what he described as Obi’s prudent approach to spending public resources during his time in office.
“I have known Peter Obi for many years. He is a very prudent person,” Utomi said, adding that Obi was careful in the way he managed public funds while serving as governor of Anambra State.
Recounting the incident, Utomi said:
> “Bola Tinubu and I were traveling to London separately but we met on the plane. We were both flying first class on British Airways many years ago and Peter Obi was then governor in Anambra. So when we came out of the airplane, Tinubu and I were walking towards the immigration counter in London. I saw Peter Obi behind us and we waited for him to walk up to us.”
