An American missionary, Alex Barbir, has now broken his silence, and what he said has left many Nigerians disturbed and asking serious questions about the state of security in the country.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Barbir described how he was able to get to the scene of the killings so quickly—and his explanation is deeply troubling.
According to him, the violence happened so close to where he was staying that reaching the scene took almost no time at all.
“When people are massacred just 10 minutes from your hotel, it doesn’t take long to get there. I could even walk to the scene,” he said.
That statement alone paints a painful picture of how close danger is to everyday life in some parts of Nigeria.
The recent attacks in Jos reportedly left many people dead and several others injured after gunmen stormed communities in what appeared to be coordinated assaults. Residents are once again living in fear as these incidents continue to repeat themselves.
Barbir also made a strong observation about the situation, suggesting that what is happening in the region feels more like a serious internal conflict rather than isolated attacks.
He went further to say that since arriving in Nigeria, experiencing violence has almost become unavoidable for him—a statement that has sparked emotional reactions online.
For many Nigerians, this is not just another news story. It is a painful reminder of the growing insecurity in the Middle Belt and the urgent need for lasting solutions.
