A Nigerian lady has sparked debate online after questioning feminists over their frequent criticism of men and their views on women’s independence and financial success.
In a video circulating on social media, the young woman wondered why older women were often at the forefront of conversations describing men as wicked, evil and untrustworthy, noting that younger women of her age rarely participated in such discussions.
According to her, she finds it difficult to understand why some older women constantly portray men negatively and urged them to share the experiences behind their opinions.
In her words, she said:
“Why is it that young ladies, young girls of my age, you will not see them coming online to bash men, saying that men are evil, men are wicked, men are scum? It’s always these aunties that will come online to tell us that men are evil and men are wicked.
What happened to you people? Aunty, you guys should come forward and tell us what happened to you. Please explain, because me, I don’t understand again.”
The lady also questioned the financial achievements of Nigerian feminists, asking why their names were allegedly missing from lists of the country’s wealthiest women.
She pointed out that several prominent women on such lists were married to wealthy men and challenged feminists to explain why they were not among the top 10, 20 or even the richest women in the country.
“Why is none of your names among the top 20, or top 1, or top 10 of these women? Why is it that these women are married to men who are the richest in Nigeria? Are you guys not independent enough? Are you guys not strong enough?” she queried.
She further accused some feminists of placing more emphasis on online arguments about men than highlighting their personal accomplishments and professional achievements.
Her remarks have since added to the ongoing online debate surrounding feminism, marriage, relationships and women’s financial independence.
