President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure and improving electricity supply across the country, as he commissioned projects in Bayelsa State.
The President made the remarks during his visit to the state on Friday, April 10, 2026, as aired by Channels Television, where he addressed government officials and stakeholders on collaboration and development priorities.
Speaking on the partnership between the federal and state governments, Tinubu said, “The state government work in partnership and towards a shared purpose. I hear you. I hear you, dear Federal Road.” He acknowledged requests made by the state government regarding infrastructure support, adding, “Okay, I will take it with me when I’m going.”
Referencing earlier discussions, the President stated, “When we met in my office, you were asking for this exception of that and waiver of that and everything.” He further noted the state’s position on road infrastructure, saying, “You mentioned Bayelsa and your commitment. Now you want reimbursement. It’s now Federal Road. I will take it with me.”
Tinubu also highlighted the importance of power infrastructure, commending the state government’s initiative on electricity generation. He said, “The independent power plant is a blessing and good thinking. And I thank you for embarking on it.”
The President stressed the critical role of electricity in national development, stating, “There can be no industrialization and development, skilled development, and empowerment without power.”
He described the initiative as forward-looking, adding, “That is a vision.” Reflecting on previous efforts to improve electricity generation in Nigeria, Tinubu said, “I won’t go back to history of my first attempt to bring independent power generation system to Nigeria.”
He acknowledged ongoing challenges in the sector, noting, “Where we are today, we are struggling with it.” Despite the challenges, the President assured citizens of progress, stating, “But I assure Nigerians that we have electricity. To power our growth.”
