The Presidency has dismissed comparisons between the swift rescue of relatives of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the continued captivity of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Presidential aide, Dada Olusegun, said it is “totally wrong” to compare both incidents, insisting that they involve different types of criminals, locations and operational challenges.
According to him, the Adelabu family case involved what he described as an urban gang of kidnappers who hid victims inside a flat within the community.
He said the Ogbomoso case, on the other hand, involves terrorists operating deep inside the bush, making the rescue approach more complex.
“The Ogbomoso children and their teachers will be rescued, and government/security agencies are not selective, as falsely claimed. The approach to the two incidents can’t be the same,” he said.
Olusegun also urged Nigerians to be happy that Adelabu’s sister and her twin children were safely rescued while continuing to pray for the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
His comments come amid public criticism over the speed of security response in different kidnapping cases and growing demands for equal urgency in rescuing all abducted victims.
