“Why I fully stand by my statement that one’s in-laws must like them” – Toolz speaks following criticisms over recent interview

Media personality Tolulope Oniru, popularly known as Toolz, has doubled down on her statement following her viral interview.

In an interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown, while reflecting on her 10 years of marriage to her pilot husband, she advised intending couples not to marry their partner if their mother-in-law or father-in-law doesn’t like them.

Doubling down on her statement in an Instagram post, she explained that if one’s in-laws don’t like them, it becomes a battle the incoming partner rarely wins.

Toolz explained further that she isn’t saying one’s in-laws have to adore them or agree with every decision one makes, but they should respect one.

“I’ve seen the different takes on what I said on @themorayoshow and I still fully stand by it.

I genuinely believe it’s important that your partner’s parents like you. Or at the very least, respect you.

Because if they don’t, it’s a battle the incoming partner rarely wins. Best-case scenario: your partner chooses you and ends up estranged from their parents. And while ‘it’s us against the world might sound romantic, that’s a heavy burden for any relationship to carry.

I’m not saying your in-laws have to adore you or agree with every decision you make absolutely. That’s unrealistic. But they should respect you, respect your relationship, and respect the decisions you and your partner make together.

Peace between your partner and their parents is a blessing. And when that peace extends to you as well, it makes life so much easier for everyone involved.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk”.

While celebrating her 10th anniversary, she threw shots at marriage shamers, noting how she went from being trolled for not being married at 40 to now celebrating 10 years of marriage. Describing it as a miracle, she appreciated everyone who came through for the shoot, noting that they had almost cancelled at the last minute because of their schedules.

In other news, Toolz shared a throwback photo of herself, questioning if her younger self would be pleased with how life had panned out.

While marking the New Year, Toolz revealed her resolution: to diligently hate on her enemies, like 50 Cent.

She had stirred reactions after she stated that she would never allow her kids to go for sleepovers at their friends’ houses. She noted how there are too many crãzy people out there and the increasing rate of abuse is alarming.
