Political and current affairs analyst, Ilyasu Gadu, has noted that governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have never been accommodating to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
According to him, the governors believe that what Wike did to weaken and break up the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, could also happen to the ruling party.
He said the governors now feel that they no longer need the help of the former Rivers State governor to win the presidential election, as they can hold the party together and win the 2027 elections without him.
DAILY POST reports that Wike is currently at daggers drawn with the Progressive Governors Forum, led by Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma, over the Rainbow Coalition, which now has members spread across various states. Wike’s coalition also has senatorial and other candidates for the upcoming elections.
Gadu said, “From all indications, it will lead to some serious rupture in the party, that’s the APC, the ruling party, and even with the relationship between the APC and Wike. You could see that the lines are getting blurred now, or rather, they are taking positions now, and it’s quite expected that before long, they are going to have a lot of problems preparing for 2027.
“And it has always been on the cards that there is going to be a problem, and that is why this is going to happen, because the APC hopefuls and faithful have never always been accommodating to Wike. They’ve been watching him. He has helped the president to win the elections, but they have not been very accommodating to him because they feel that what he did to weaken and break the PDP, he may do in the APC.
“And they have told him they don’t want him in this party, so he stayed out of the party to create a lot of problems for the governors of the APC, who believe they have what it takes to hold the party and win the election for the party in 2027 without Wike. That Wike’s contribution in 2023 was just a happenstance. But now, having become governors, they don’t need Wike to be there.
“So, now what they’re saying is that, okay, you’ve come this way, you’ve been rewarded with a very juicy position as FCT minister, but then the problem for them is that Mr President has the use of Wike because he believes that where some of these governors might not get in, Wike can get in. So, that’s where the problem lies.”
