President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will leave Abuja on Wednesday, September 4, to commence a 10-day working vacation in Europe, the Presidency has announced.
The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who said the vacation will include visits to France and the United Kingdom before the President returns to Nigeria.
This marks another official overseas engagement for President Tinubu following his short working visit to Paris, France, on April 2, during which he reviewed the midterm performance of his administration.
Onanuga explained that the purpose of the working vacation is for the President to appraise his administration’s progress, assess key milestones, and review ongoing reforms. He noted that the period will also be used for strategic planning ahead of the administration’s second anniversary.
“He will use this period of reflection to deepen ongoing reforms and accelerate national development priorities in the coming year,” the presidential spokesperson said.
The Presidency reassured Nigerians that President Tinubu will remain fully engaged with his team and continue overseeing governance activities while abroad. Onanuga added that the President is expected to return in about two weeks.
This follows previous criticisms from opposition figures when the President spent two weeks outside the country earlier this year amid concerns over prevailing insecurity. The Presidency had then clarified that Tinubu remained actively involved in Nigeria’s governance despite being abroad.
