Tekno has opened up about the inspiration behind one of his biggest songs, revealing that his hit track “Rara” was heavily influenced by Wizkid’s iconic song Ojuelegba.
During a recent interview on a Cool FM podcast, the Nigerian singer and producer admitted that the two records share striking musical similarities, saying the foundation of “Rara” was built from the same creative elements as “Ojuelegba.”
According to Tekno, the songs have nearly identical musical structures.
“Rara is ‘Ojuelegba’. It’s the same thing. Same progression, same everything. A good chef is always a good chef,” he said.
The award-winning artiste explained that his admiration for “Ojuelegba” played a major role in shaping “Rara.” He revealed that he listened to the song repeatedly, and that experience eventually inspired him to create one of his own biggest records.
“I listened to ‘Ojuelegba’ so much that it gave me a hit song. That’s one of my all-time favorite songs. Not just Afrobeats, all time,” Tekno said.
Tekno also expressed surprise after learning that Wizkid had once considered not releasing “Ojuelegba,” a song that has since become one of the defining records in Afrobeats.
Reflecting on the revelation, he admitted he couldn’t believe the global star almost kept the track from the public, describing the finished song as “just a good shuffle.”
His comments have sparked conversations among fans, with many praising his honesty about drawing inspiration from a fellow artist while highlighting the influence “Ojuelegba” continues to have on musicians years after its release.
