Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has urged recently called-to-the-Bar police officers to leverage their legal expertise in defending and enhancing the Nigerian Police Force.
The IGP gave the charge at the Force Headquarters in Abuja while receiving the officers, according to a statement on Tuesday by Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin.
“You are not just returning as police officers, but as legal professionals. Your knowledge must be used to strengthen the Force and to better serve Nigerians,” Egbetokun said.
The statement highlighted that the development comes as the Force recently upgraded its legal section to a full directorate, now headed by an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, as part of ongoing reforms to boost legal oversight and institutional capacity.
Among the newly qualified lawyers was Deputy Superintendent of Police Idachaba Laraba, who was specially recognised by the IGP for graduating with first-class honours from the Nigerian Law School.
The IGP described the officers’ call to the Bar as a valuable addition to the police and emphasized the importance of applying their legal knowledge to serve the nation more effectively.
