The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has advised social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) to venture into politics, saying activism alone cannot bring about the level of change Nigeria needs.
Speaking while receiving the activist at his palace, the monarch encouraged VDM to begin by contesting for the House of Representatives or Senate before eventually running for the presidency.
According to the traditional ruler, political power is more influential than wealth and is necessary for anyone who truly wants to transform society.
He said:
“I want you to start contesting for House of Reps, Senate and then go for the presidency. You can’t keep being a human rights activist forever. Power is different from money. Power will lock up money. Tinubu can jail the richest man in Nigeria for no reason. We need youths like you to be in power.”
The monarch’s remarks have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some agreeing that real change comes from participating in governance, while others questioned the advice.
