Former Borno State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ali Modu Sheriff, has said the Peter Obi would not receive the support of Northern voters if he contests the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television monitored by THE WHISTLER, Sheriff argued that the political dynamics in the North had changed since the 2023 election, insisting Obi would struggle to secure votes across the region.
“I am not worried about Peter Obi because I know Northerners will never vote for him,” he said.
Responding to observations that Obi won significant votes in states such as Plateau State and Nasarawa State during the 2023 election, Sheriff claimed the situation had changed, alleging that Obi alienated Northerners during his tenure as governor of Anambra State.
He also claimed supporters of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso were opposed to any political alliance involving Obi ahead of the 2027 polls.
Sheriff further defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over insecurity, arguing that the country’s security challenges predated the current administration.
He said Tinubu should be assessed based on measures taken to address the crisis, including efforts to introduce state policing.
The APC chieftain also dismissed the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in 2027, maintaining that the presidency should remain in the South until 2031 in line with Nigeria’s informal power-sharing arrangement.
According to Sheriff, Tinubu is well-positioned to secure a second term, although he said the APC would continue to campaign vigorously ahead of the election.
