President Bola Tinubu’s camp has adopted the slogan “WE ARE MAD” for its 2027 re-election campaign, turning a remark associated with former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, into a rallying message.
Amaechi is now the vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pairing with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who is the party’s candidate in the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, unveiled the campaign-style slogan in a poster he shared on X on Sunday, defining “MAD” as an acronym for “Motivated, Assured, Determined.”
The move appears to be a response to Amaechi’s description of Tinubu’s supporters as “mad people,” with the president’s camp recasting the expression as a badge of political loyalty.
Onanuga directly referenced the former minister in his post, writing: “Rotimi Amaechi: Yes, we, the followers and supporters of President Tinubu, are truly MAD. Read why we are.”
The accompanying graphic explains that “Motivated” represents purpose and passion, “Assured” signifies confidence in the group’s vision and victory, while “Determined” conveys resolve and an unwavering commitment to its political goals.
The slogan has drawn reactions from Tinubu’s supporters on social media, with some echoing the message: “Yes o! We are M.A.D.”
Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, served as Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari and was a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) member before falling out with the party’s leadership. He also contested the APC presidential ticket in 2022.
By embracing the word “MAD” rather than rejecting the description, Tinubu’s supporters have turned a political jab into a campaign slogan designed for easy repetition across social media platforms and campaign materials.
Analysts however, say the slogan’s unveiling does not, in itself, establish the level of support for Tinubu’s expected re-election bid in 2027.
