United States President Donald Trump has endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for re-election, warning that Washington could “soon finish the job” against Iran unless Tehran changes its course.
Trump made the remarks in a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, praising Netanyahu’s leadership and linking his continued stay in office to the ongoing confrontation with Iran.
“Unless they change their ways, rapidly, we will soon finish the job,” Trump wrote, referring to Iran, which he claimed had been weakened militarily and financially.
He also warned that the United States could be left to handle the confrontation with Iran alone if Netanyahu lost the upcoming Israeli election.
“If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so,” Trump said.
Trump subsequently declared his “Complete and Total Endorsement” of Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s October 27 election, describing him as a strong leader who had faced considerable opposition.
Netanyahu thanked Trump for the endorsement in a post on X, sharing a video of the US president praising him.
“Thank you, President Trump, for the tremendous support and the joint work. Together we will complete the mission!” Netanyahu wrote.
Trump described Netanyahu as a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and a partner in efforts to confront Iran, arguing that his leadership was important to the campaign against Tehran.
The endorsement comes nine days before Israelis head to the polls in an election that will determine whether Netanyahu secures another term in office.
The vote will be Israel’s first national election since the Hamas-led attacks of October 7, 2023, which triggered the war in Gaza and contributed to wider regional conflict.
Trump’s comments signal continued US support for Netanyahu as the Israeli leader seeks re-election amid the ongoing regional security crisis.
